New Aircraft Hangar

Aircraft Hangar

Bridgewater State University – New Bedford Regional Airport

Bridgewater, MA

The new aircraft hangar, the first of its kind for the University, was designed to meet the increasing needs of the Bridgewater State University Aviation program.

Long considered a pioneer  in the field of aviation among Massachusetts higher education facilities, the design and construction of the new hangar is in direct response to student’s need to log in more flight time throughout the year by protecting aircrafts from adverse weather conditions. During colder weather, frost can accumulate on unprotected aircraft forcing the cancellation of training sessions. The new aircraft hangar was designed to store up to six Cessna aircrafts and is situated adjacent to the University’s existing Flight Training Center at the New Bedford Regional Airport.

Student Accessibility Services Office Suite Renovation

Bridgewater State University

The new Student Accessibility Services Office Suite located within the Rondileau Student Union at Bridgewater State University provides dedicated space for individuals seeking academic support. Previously located as a smaller sub-space within the campus library, the Student Accessibility Services was rapidly out growing their space and in need of a more functional environment to provide students with the best experience possible. The availability of an existing space in the student union proved to be the perfect relocation, gaining more space for the program as well as situating SAS to a more centralized location on campus.

In addition to the suite, Civitects also renovated adjacent toilet rooms. The existing women`s toilet room and powder room were converted into men`s, women`s, and gender-inclusive toilet rooms.

University of Massachusetts Boston, Satellite Campus

This project was a renovation to an existing laboratory located on Nantucket and owned by Boston University. The project reorganizes the existing space and enlarged the toilet room, for code compliance, while maintaining the existing footprint. Existing wood siding, windows, and framing had begun to rot in areas along the exterior of the building and required replacement.

The building is located within the Nantucket Historic District and required coordination with the local preservation society when choosing new materials for the exterior repairs, that would be both appropriate and durable.

Textile Building Bioengineering Research Laboratory

University of Massachusetts Dartmouth

Dartmouth, MA

This project was part of a multi-phased renovation to the existing lab spaces in UMass’ Textile Building. This phase of the project included a pair of research labs (for both “wet” and “dry” experiments) and a portion of the surrounding support spaces, for all phases of the project.

During the design phase of the project careful consideration had to be given when planning the spaces in order to avoid redundant or unnecessary work across multiple phases.

The project included the complete renovation of an existing research lab space, in addition to creating two chemical storage rooms. The lab and storage rooms were designed as control areas to allow the school to increase it’s capacity for chemical storage on campus.
