This project consisted of the replacement of two roofs at the university. Repointing of existing masonry at the parapet and penthouses was also included as part of the project.
The overall scope of this project included fume hood replacement and new ventilation system installation for 36 biology and geology research laboratories. The architectural scope included laboratory casework alteration, ceiling and floor finishes removal and replacement, and roof modifications required to accommodate new MEP equipment.
This project was part of a multi-phased renovation to the existing lab spaces in UMass’ Textile Building. This phase of the project included a pair of research labs (for both “wet” and “dry” experiments) and a portion of the surrounding support spaces, for all phases of the project.
During the design phase of the project careful consideration had to be given when planning the spaces in order to avoid redundant or unnecessary work across multiple phases.
The project included the complete renovation of an existing research lab space, in addition to creating two chemical storage rooms. The lab and storage rooms were designed as control areas to allow the school to increase it’s capacity for chemical storage on campus.
Following piecemeal growth of the UMass Pass Office over a number of years, the intent of this project was to synthesize and aesthetically revamp this vital center of campus business.
